Sophie Wilson

Sophie Wilson CBE (Selwyn, 1976) is “one of the architects of the modern world”, according to The Coding Space’s article on Six Trans Programmers Who Shattered The Lavender Ceiling.

This praise is in large part related to Sophie’s design of the ARM microprocessor core, a milestone in British engineering used in smartphones and tablets.

Sophie was instrumental in designing the BBC Microcomputer, and is listed in Maximum PC magazine as one of the "15 Most Important Women in Tech History". She was made a CBE in 2019.

Sophie was born Roger Wilson and transitioned in 1994. A young Roger Wilson is portrayed in the BBC drama Micro Men, set in the late 1970s and the early-mid 1980s, about the rise of the British home computer market. Sophie made a cameo appearance in the show, playing a barmaid.
