Dixi Stewart
Dixi Stewart (Selwyn, 1984) was, together with Rebecca Sandles and Matthew Linfoot, one of a threesome of Cambridge alumni who were at the forefront of LGBT+ visibility in the media, particularly at the BBC, in the 1990s (and beyond).
They were behind the Gay and Lesbian London show on BBC GLR (Greater London Radio, or, as Dixi might have it, Gorgeous Lessie Radio), which first aired in 1993.
Dixi helped set up Talk Radio UK where she presented and produced shows with stars including Anna Raeburn, Lorraine Kelly and Caesar The Geezer.

In 1998 she joined the BBC where she produced and edited a variety of daily and weekly programmes including The Food Programme, Woman’s Hour and Saturday Live, live news coverage of general elections, royal weddings and state funerals, and a range of documentaries including Bettany Hughes’ acclaimed series The Ideas That Make Us and the multi-award-winning A New Life In Europe. She was part of the launch team for BBC Sounds and created much-loved podcasts including Fortunately with Fi and Jane.

From 2017 to 2022 Dixi worked with the BBC’s Managing Director Bob Shennan to deliver his content strategy and implement initiatives to improve working culture, increase diversity on and off-air, and support the BBC through the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2022 she became Managing Director of SandStone Global Productions which makes acclaimed TV documentaries for broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Amazon, PBS, Viasat, SBS and many other international platforms.

Dixi is a Fellow of The Radio Academy and Director of the Radio Academy Festival.
